This ticket does not include payment for the July SHRM Foundation Fundraiser or other social networking functions outside of the ten standard monthly membership meetings (Jan 7, Feb 4, March 3, May 12, June 9, Aug 4, Sept 1, Oct 6, Nov 10, and Dec 14.

Program Topic: Planning for the New Normal in Business. This GSHRM membership meeting (offered via Zoom webinar) is designed to aid employers on what to expect as our country phases back into "new normal" operations over the next few months.  Our esteemed panel consists of Dr. Jason Jones, interim chair and associate professor of Furman University's Department of Economics, Dr. Ted Swann, physician and owner of Swann Medicine, and Mark Bakker, attorney with Nexsen Pruet law firm.  

We will discuss:

  • Expected short and long term effects to our economy due to this crisis
  • How to protect ourselves and our employees as we return to the physical work place
  • COVID-19 testing and other medical topics
  • New government requirements in place for employer compliance

Speakers:

 

Jason Jones (PhD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) joined the Furman economics faculty in 2008. His current research interests include issues related to the growth effects of trade agreements, IMF crisis response, fiscal policy effectiveness, international economic integration, and debt issue in the United States. Dr. Jones recently completed an economic impact study of Furman University. Two of his projects have been co-authored with students.  His teaching interests include macroeconomics, international macroeconomics, monetary policy, forecasting, statistics, and introductory economics.

 

Ted Swann, MD, is president and physician of Swann Medicine, located in Clemson. His thriving practice is focused on personalized medicine for a limited number of patients with in-depth wellness planning focused on lifestyle optimization, 24/7 access to physician, on-time same-day no-hurry appointments, and an awesome patient experience. Previous to Swann Medicine, Ted served as physician at AnMed Clemson Family Medicine and resident physician in Family Medicine at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  Ted received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina and his BS from Clemson University. He is a volunteer physician at the Clemson Free Medical Clinic and participates in numerous other volunteer roles.

  Mark Bakker is a recognized employment law litigator and trusted legal advisor in employment and other business-related matters. He represents clients in federal and state courts throughout North and South Carolina, arbitration panels, before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission and other state and federal agencies. He provides daily proactive advice and counseling to employers on many human resources issues. In addition to advising a wide variety of established corporations, Mark advises HR consulting firms, management teams, entrepreneurs, start-up companies, and staffing companies.

HR Certification Credit: This program is approved for 1.5 PDCs for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. It is approved for 1.5 hours of HRCI business re-certification credits. Certificates will be emailed to those in attendance after the meeting along with a Feedback Survey.
